Tips for Annapurna Sanctuary trek/ABC trek

What is your dream destination?

Tips for Annapurna Sanctuary trek/ABC trek

  1. Install to your mobile and download the maps for the region. This was the best companion for me to my trek to ABC without a guide.
  2. Water purification tablet is not necessary during the trekking. You will find natural source of waters everywhere in the trek, all you need to do is to use your judgement of the source to fill-up your bottle.
  3. You should carry a power bank with you. As you will go up, lodges will take extra money for charging your mobile. You can save it by using your power bank.
  4. During the peak season, the lodges fill up pretty quickly. So, you should book ahead. You can take help of someone from the lodge you are staying to book the next one.
  5. You like it or not, you should order for “Daal Bhat” and egg curry for dinner. “Daal Bhat” comes with rice, lentils, papad, pickle, vegetables and spinach. The biggest advantage of taking Daal Bhat is, you will get extra rice and lentils for free if you need more. Eat as much as possible! For the breakfast, best combination I found was omelette with Chapati bread. For a change, you can also try Gurung bread in the breakfast.
  6. You will not find any ATM machine or money exchange shop on your way. You better exchange your currency in Kathmandu or in Pokhara. It is advisable to exchange those in Kathmandu and the exchange rate is worse in Pokhara.
  7. Pack light! If you carry a lighter bag, you will enjoy more. If the bag weights more than 8 KG in total, you should revisit your stuffs.
  8. If you do not stay in ABC, leave your bag to the lodge in MBC (and collect it back from there when you return).
  9. I trekked there during first week of December and I really loved the weather. The sky was blue, the temperature was bearable and there was not a lot of people in the trek. As, December is not a peak season, you can plan to do the trek during first week of December.
  10. Take a head lamp/torch with you. In case it becomes dark, it will help you to continue your journey until you reach to a lodge.
  11. You don’t need to hire a guide. The paths are so well marked, you can do it on your own. In that way, you will know your paths and destinations better and can enjoy every bit of your journey.
