Where to stay in Bagan?

What is your dream destination?

Where to stay in Bagan?

Bagan is mesmerising, there is absolutely no doubt about it. There are not many places on earth where you will get the kind of feelings like roaming around in Bagan.

The hotels are placed in three places in Bagan.

  1. Nyaung U
  2. New Bagan
  3. Old Bagan

Nyaung U is closest to the bus station(where your bus from Yangon will reach) and to the airport.

Old Bagan is the closest to the archaeological sites.

New Bagan is closer to the archaeological sites comparing to Nyaung U but far from airport and bus station.

Below is a map where I painted Old Bagan – the asterisks around Old Bagan are some notable temples.Screen Shot 2016-07-27 at 12.27.59 AM

When it comes down to cost, hotels in Nyaung U are the cheapest followed by the ones in New Bagan. Hotels in old Bagan are pretty expensive.

If you take the night bus from Yangon, it will drop you around 4:00 to 4:30 in the morning in Nyaung U.  And, if you know how to ride a bi-cycle, you will be able to ride the most popular vehicle in Bagan – Electronic Bike. It will reduce the slight distance related disadvantage of staying in Nyaung U.

So, to me, Nyaung U is the place where you should stay in Bagan.

Where did I stay?

I stayed at Motel Zein in Nyaung U.

My experience was 5 out of 5!

I went to the off-season and paid only US$ 27 per night. The breakfast was included in the price. It was bacon, fried rice, some vegetables, eggs (both poached and omelettes), fruits, juice, teas, coffees. The mangoes they served was fantastic.

The wi-fi was okay, I didn’t have any issue with it. The stuffs were friendly.

I arrived very early in the morning there and they allowed me to check without delay. They suggested a shop nearby from where I rented bike and it performed well. On the last day, when I needed to print by boarding pass in the early morning, they showed me the generosity of sending someone to print it from outside (as they did not have any printer) for me.

I would love to stay there again.

Where did you stay in Bagan and what was your experience?
